Ethiopia’s Renaissance Dam, formerly known as the Millennium Dam, will soon see over $35 million worth of machinery arrive. Salini Construttori S.P.A. has begun importing the items for what will be Africa’s largest hydrodam.
The equipment will arrive from the Djibouti Port and includes two Caterpillar 990 graders each worth $1.5 million, which have the capacity to lift up to 50 tons. “Theses graders will help to speed up the construction work at the site, previously, we were using machines that had been transferred from other sites, such as Gilgel Gibe II and Tana Beles,” said Andrea Scanxani, Salini’s Ethiopian Branch Manager.
