EEPCo electrified eight rural towns, kebeles in Central Tigray Zone with over 15 mln birr

Axum, July 09, 2007 (WIC) – Eight Rural Towns and Kebeles in Central Tigray Zones have become beneficiaries of round the clock electricity service with over 15 million birr budget allocated by the Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation (EEPCo), the Abiadi District Office said.

Office Manager, Abraha Hagos, said that the eight rural towns and Kebeles under EEPCo district have been electrified this year in accordance with the special attention given by the federal government.


More than 10,000 residents of Guya, Sele, Adiha, Agbe, Hagere-Selam, Yechilla, Workamba and Aabiadi Kebeles have become beneficiaries of the service, Abraha said, adding that activities have been underway to extend the service to Indamariam Korar, Shewate, Higum and Maygua rural Kebeles where the service has not reached yet.


Abraha said the EEPCo district has also been undertaking expansion works to replace the power cable in Abiyiadi town with modern one. Some 70 per cent or 27 kilometers of the work has been finalized, according to him.
