EEPCO signs 142.4 million Birr accord with local contractors

Addis Ababa, November 24, 2007 (ENA) - The Ethiopian Electric Power Cooperation (EEPCO) here on Saturday signed a contract agreement amounting over 142 million Birr with two local constructors engaged in production of concrete electric poles.

It was indicated that EEPCO has been electrifying rural towns using concrete electric poles manufactured by local contractors and by itself.

Accordingly, EEPCO has signed a contract agreement with SABA engineering Plc. and Kabew Construction Company amounting 47.4 million Birr and 95 .1 million Birr, respectively.

As per the agreement, the contractors would hand over the poles in 18 months.

EEPCO said the budget would be covered by the loan the World Bank provided for rural electrification program.

EEPCO General Manager, Miheret Debebe and General Managers of the two contractor companies signed the agreement.

EEPCO said some 749 of the 1,714 rural towns planned to get access to electric power in this budget year would be electrified by various regions of the corporation.

The electrification work in the remaining towns would be carried out by local and foreign contractors.
