1.1. The Project Area
The Gibe III hydro
power project is located on the Omo-Gibe Basin in the southern Nations and
Nationalities People Regional state 500 km south west of Addis Ababa. Gibe
III is expected to deliver 1870 MW in terms of capacity and 6400 GWh in
terms of energy, both to domestic demand and for export to Ethiopia’s
Southern neighbors.
The project area
involves the following main routes in order to evacuate the power
generated from Gibe III hydro power plant:-
-
From Gibe
III to Wolayta Sodo 400 kV double circuit line
- From
Wolayta Sodo to Gilgel Gibe II 400 kV single circuit line
-
From
Wolayta Sodo to Addis Ababa 400 kV single circuit on double circuit tower
1.2.
Project Components
The project components and its status are:-
a)
Gibe III – Wolayta Sodo 400 kV line
The design and bid documents preparation are completed for
this transmission line section and will be financed by other financing
institution.
b)
Wolayta Sodo – Gilgel Gibe II 400 kV line
The bid document for this transmission line section is
under floating period and is financed by other financing institution.
c)
Wolayta Sodo – Addis Ababa 400 kV line
This transmission line has two sections:-
-
From Wolayta Sodo to Akaki substations with line length of
260km.
-
From Akaki to Sabata substations with line length of
32km.
The design and bid documents preparation for both sections
of lines are completed.
The Ethiopian Electric
Power Corporation (EEPCO) invites interested contractors with experience
of 400 KV or above transmission lines design, manufacture and construction
to submit their offer by securing the finance requirement of the project
through suitable lines of credit/supplier’s credit/buyer’s credit.
1.3.
Scope of the Project
The scope of the project
is to construct single circuit 400 kV line on double circuit towers on
turnkey basis of single circuit 400 kV (on double circuit towers),
3-phase, twin AAAC “ASTER 851” conductor, one optical fiber cable and one
galvanized steel shield wires on self supporting, tapered configuration,
vertical formation galvanized
steel lattice towers with each leg having a separate
footings of pad and chimney concrete type, of about
260km
from Wolayta Sodo to Akaki substations and
32km
from Akaki to Sabata substation.
The detailed scope of
work consists of:- “check-survey,
soil investigations at tower sites, design, quality assurance management,
manufacture, supply, delivery to site, unloading, erection, setting to
work, testing at site , commissioning and trial operation, complete in
every respect and suitable for reliable operation in the respective
environmental and climatic conditions”
1.4.

Interested contractors
with experience on 400 kV or above transmission lines construction can
submit their offer to EEPCO.
Bidders/Contractors are
expected to bring finance through suitable lines of credit/supplier’s
credit/buyer’s credit.
The financing scheme
